Election Judges Wanted

One of the responsibilities of the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections is the appointment of Election Judges to staff the Early Voting Sites and Polling Places for the 2010 Primary and General Elections.

In this regard, Election Judges are being sought to work six (6) Early Voting days in five (5) Early Voting Sites, and on Election Day in one hundred and eighty-nine (189) Polling Places throughout Anne Arundel County for the September 14, 2010 Gubernatorial Primary Election, and the November 2, 2010 Gubernatorial General Election.

For the first time Maryland voters will have the option of Early Voting.  Early Voting will occur six days prior to the Primary and General Elections, Friday through Thursday, excluding Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.  There will be five Early Voting sites throughout Anne Arundel County.  Early Voting for the Primary Election will occur Friday, September 3, 2010, through Thursday, September 9, 2010.  Early Voting for the General Election will occur Friday, October 22, 2010, through Thursday, October 28, 2010.

DUTIES: Election Judges play a very important role in the electoral process.  They are responsible for administrating voting procedures in their Early Voting Site and/or Polling Place, while ensuring a fair and accessible election for all eligible voters.  Specific duties include setting up and breaking down an Early Voting Site or Polling Place before and after voting hours.  Other duties may include checking-in voters, assisting voters with using the voting unit, and overseeing all election procedures throughout the Early Voting Site and/or Polling Place.

Additionally, Election Judges must make sure that qualified voters who are properly registered are able to cast their vote in a trouble-free environment.  Election Judges represent the entire electoral process and may be the only person a voter has contact with when exercising his or her right to vote.  Therefore, the Election Judge must be reliable, courteous, and able to follow procedures exactly, and above all, possess good judgment.
