This morning, we received a press release from Allison Asti announcing her run for Circuit Court in Anne Arundel County. A few weeks ago, Judge Hackner doled out what amounted to a swat on the nose to a serial sexual offender.
I opined back then that the most important races (and most overlooked) are the ones for judges which come up so infrequently. While our local legislators are elected to short terms, our judges are with us for 10 or 15 years. Electing a rogue judge can literally impact the quality of life for a decade or longer.
How would your quality of life be in the County if all judges took the approach of Judge Hackner and allowed serial offenders to essentially walk free. Think about it.
I don’t know much about Allison Asti beyond what she claims in her press release (after the jump), but you can be sure I will be looking into her candidacy–as well as the candidacies of her opponents before I cast my vote. I suggest you do as well. There is no single position in local government which has a greater ability to directly impact the quality of life in Anne Arundel County than these judges.
