2nd Annual Carr’s Beach Historic Music Festival – Sunday, June 27th

The public is invited to attend the 2nd Annual Carr’s Beach Historic Music Festival on Sunday, June 27th from 12:30pm to 9pm (rain or shine) at Bates Heritage Park on South Villa Avenue in Annapolis.

The daylong event is produced to recreate the regular Sunday afternoon shows of the ‘50s and ‘60s that, despite the period, were open to people of all color.  Additionally, Carr’s Beach was a wonderful social outlet where parents and children, alike, could have plenty of fun and leave troubles outside the gate.

Original national headliners included Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, Sarah Vaughn, Jackie Wilson, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Ike and Tina Turner, The Vandellas, The Pipe Dreamers and The Legends.

This year’s festival will include: Michael McHenry Tribe; CONNECTED (Gospel Soul); Sweet Lime & Passion (World Beat); Clones of Funk (P Funk); Spice (Jazz); Blues Legend Nadine Rae and nationally-known groups:   Sir Joe Quarterman (“So Much Trouble”), William DeVaughn (“Be Thankful For What You Got”), Captain Fly’s Intruder Review, and the C-Note Band.

Proceeds will benefit Annapolis Youth Services Bureau and We Care and Friends, two local non-profit organizations that care for at-risk youths and people in need.

Last year, Larry Griffin, We Care and Friends founder and professional musician, was awarded the 2009 Heritage Award by Four Rivers: The Heritage Area of Annapolis, London Town and South County.  Four Rivers Heritage Awards “recognize individuals, organizations, programs and products that contribute significantly to the community by interpreting, promoting, preserving, researching and/or supporting our historical legacy”.

Tickets ($20, cash) will be available at the event.  For more information about the event, please call (410) 263-2874.
