Bay Health Receives Highest Marks Since 2002.  The Chesapeake Bay showed broad water quality improvements in 2009, receiving its highest mark since 2002 from the annual Chesapeake Bay Health Report Card, according to Gov. Martin O’Malley.O’Malley made the announcement Tuesday, while also discussing the launch of StreamHealth, a new website to help Marylanders learn about the health of their streams and how to take action to improve them.

Glen Burnie Man Indicted In Double Shooting At Frostburg University. An Allegany County grand jury has indicted a Frostburg University student who’s accused of shooting two students, killing one of them. Tyrone Hall, 21, of Glen Burnie, said he answered the door of his home with a shotgun in April after Brandon Carroll, 20, of Waldorf, and Ellis Hartridge Jr., 21, of Washington, D.C., confronted him about an incident at a party earlier that night.Hall said the two men lunged toward him, so he fired the gun.

Students Present Anti-Bullying Play To Others.  Some Baltimore city middle school students have found a new way to reach classmates with a message on avoiding gangs and bullying.Students from the Bluford Drew Jemison Middle School created a play using puppets called “Live Hard or Die Hard,” and it was shared with a group of students at Fort Worthington Elementary School.”We were in class, and they started talking about how to help the youth. So, some people in my class, we tried to sign up to try to help the youth,” said Jemison student Hakeem Butler.

Mistaken Keno Ticket Purchase Nets $40K Win. A mistaken lottery purchase paid off handsomely — to the tune of $40,000 — for a Maryland Lottery player. James Perrone, in Ocean City for a recent work conference, bought a Keno ticket at a hotel, Maryland Lottery officials said Tuesday.The 53-year-old said he wanted to spend $2 on a ticket but accidentally marked his ticket for $10 per game for two games — resulting in a $20 price tag.When he tried to cancel the transaction, the selection of Keno numbers had started and it was too late.The Columbia resident watched the games with others at the hotel bar and realized that nine of his 10 numbers came out very quickly.
