HOA Fee Keeps Glen Burnie Man From Selling Home.  The tightening of the mortgage industry is keeping one Glen Burnie man from selling his home.Dave Shaffer said he has a buyer for the home, but that buyer is having trouble getting a home loan because of a lending rule that’s just recently been enforced.Shaffer is disabled and unable to work. He said he can’t afford to live in his condo community anymore, so he found a buyer to purchase it.

MD Lawmaker Proposes Immigration Bill Similar To Arizona.  A local delegate is pledging to push an immigration law through the Maryland General Assembly that is similar to one passed in Arizona.Delegate Patrick McDonough, R-Baltimore County, has introduced at least 11 reform measures over the years and is leading the charge against illegal immigration in Maryland.He’s drafting another exactly like the one signed into law on Friday in Arizona requiring police to determine the immigration status of any individual who raises “reasonable suspicion” that they are an illegal alien. Police would then make an arrest without a warrant for any public offense that could cause deportation.

Obama Salutes Dorothy Height’s Place In History. Recognizing his debt to her quiet perseverance, an emotional President Barack Obama eulogized Dorothy Height as a humble champion of civil rights who deserved a seat of honor in American history. Though Height devoted decades to pursuing “a righteous cause,” Obama said she never cared about getting credit and often worked behind the scenes while the movement’s male leaders earned more attention and fame.

BARCS Overcrowding Leads To Tough Decisions. Local animal shelters can become desperately overcrowded in the spring and summer, forcing staff members to make painful decisions very quickly, including euthanasia.The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter invited the WBAL TV 11 News I-Team to witness some of those difficult decisions, and in just a few hours, the I-Team’s camera captured several pet owner surrenders.BARCS Executive Director Jennifer Mead-Brause said shelter workers struggle daily to manage the lives of 400 animals at a time.”We take in 33 animals a day, and we have to make some tough choices,” Mead-Brause said.
