Be Careful
Woman Sexually Assaulted, Man Caught
Please be careful. This is not the 1950s or 1960s. The world is a much more dangerous place and there can be danger at every turn if you are not careful.
This man was selling magazines door to door in Arnold, MD yesterday. A woman opened the door and after showing proper ID, the man asked to use the bathroom. She allowed him and when he was finished, he sexually assaulted her.
Thankfully, the police were able to respond quickly and capture this man. He is at the Jennifer Road Detention Center on a $2M bond. Please, everyone, be careful and be aware of your surroundings. While horrible in and of itself, it could have been a lot worse.
Police report is after the jump.
From the AACOPD:
On April 20, 2010, at approximately 2:41 p.m., officers from the Eastern District responded to the 500 block of Norton Way in Arnold for a report of a sex offense.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 29-year-old female victim, who stated that she was sexually assaulted by an unknown male suspect at her residence. The victim advised that she allowed the suspect into her residence after he asked to use the bathroom. After exiting the bathroom, the suspect sexually assaulted the victim and then left the residence.
Further investigation indicated that this was a random act, the suspect was in the area soliciting magazine subscriptions and that he presented company credentials and out of state identification while going door to door. Eastern District officers immediately responded to the area and stopped a subject nearby matching the description provided by the victim. The victim positively identified that individual, Jarvis Lamon Spain, 21, of 4647 N. 37th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the subject responsible for the aforementioned incident.

hey, need to be careful when reporting this stuff. Good job including the Annapolis police report, that’s a major start. But this guy who’s being held by the police hasn’t been convicted of anything yet. The police can say he committed the crime, but reporters can’t say he did the deed.
The accurate way to write that would be something like: “Police are holding a man in connection with a sexual assault reported (insert date here.) The suspect (insert suspect’s name here followed by what the police are reporting), Annapolis police said.”
I ain’t a cops reporter, but that’s some fairly basic stuff. Charging people with crimes on your web site is pretty serious stuff, that’s when publishers (of any ilk: print, broadcast, online, otherwise) start to draw lawsuits.
Wow, seems like someone has some time on their hands. Hopefully your own house is in order now that you have nothing better to do than criticize other people. I for one appreciate this blog and yes I realize they do make mistakes on occasion and they are quick to correct them. Maybe you can send them a resume and you can be the proofreader. Just a thought.
I appreciate this information as this same man tried to enter my house in Hunters Pointe as well. Fortunately my rottweiler scared him off. We all need to look out for one another so sharing the information is crucial, we can all keep our eyes open a bit more.
Becca–I trust that you reported that to the police as well.
William, I think it’s great that you have multiple people reporting what happens around town. But I also support standards of journalism.
I don’t know what’s happening with this suspect, but I do know it is not a reporters job to try the case. That’s why we have a legal system.
