MD Revises Procedures After Wrong Inmate Released. Maryland corrections officials said they’re revising inmate release procedures after an inmate serving a life sentence was mistakenly released last week.Public Safety and Correctional Services spokesman Rick Binetti said Tuesday that the agency plans to begin using portable fingerprint scanning machines at some prisons.

Man Gets 15 Year Sentence In Street Racing Death. A Maryland man who admitted participating in an illegal street race that killed eight people has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.Before a Prince George’s County judge imposed his sentence on Tuesday, 22-year-old Darren Bullock of Waldorf said he understands the pain the accident caused and said he accepts responsibility for his actions.

New Gang Bills To Increase Penalties, Jail Time. Maryland prosecutors lobbied in Annapolis on Tuesday for tougher gang legislation.They called the Gang Prosecution Act of 2007 worthless and said it fails to define what a gang actually is or what constitutes membership.The new bill, which follows a yearlong study, includes language that was gutted in the 2007 bill, when the General Assembly first passed the measure.

Man Detains Alleged Thief For Police. The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said a man who surprised an alleged thief inside his truck managed to detain the intruder until police arrived about seven minutes later.Authorities haven’t released the name of the man who spotted the intruder while walking his dog on McLauren Lane at about 6:15 a.m. Sunday.Cpl. Jennifer Bailey said Tuesday that the man grabbed the intruder, subdued him and kept him on the scene until deputies arrived.
