The fight to keep Cardinal Gibbons School from closing is officially over.A meeting hosted by Bishop Denis Madden was held on Monday at archdiocese headquarters, where the archdiocese said after 20 years of subsidizing the school to the tune of $4 million, the model just isn’t working.

Mother Charged In Death Of 2-Month Old Infant. A mother has been charged with murder, a day after her child’s body was found inside a bag left in a park.Officers said the child’s mother, Lakesha Haynie, 28, is charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and various child abuse charges.

SWAT Team Called To Laurel Grocery Store. Patrons of a Laurel Giant Supermarket experienced some tense moments Sunday night as a SWAT team was called to the store to search for an armed intruder.The SWAT team stormed the store, looking for a suspect who had reportedly been holding a store manager hostage, according to police.The incident began at 8:30 p.m., when the manager of the store called 911 from his cell phone saying he had locked himself inside a walk-in cooler because an armed intruder demanded he open the store safe.
