Your Packages Are Safe

APD Nails Package Thief

As we have reported, there have been many thefts of packages left at residences during the day. Yesterday, Annapolis Police conducted a sting. And true to the stupidity of criminals, they went back to the same neighborhood and were caught in no time flat.

However, just because these two were apprehended, does not mean to let your guard down.  The full press release from the police department is after the jump.

Package Theft Arrest – During the afternoon hours of Wednesday, February 3, 2010, ten members of the APD FLEX unit conducted plain clothes surveillance in the area of Windwhisper Lane and Yachtsman Way in reference to recent thefts of packages delivered to homes in the community. At approximately 1:10 PM officers saw a package delivered to a home on Windwhisper Lane. At approximately 1:22 PM a man was observed going up to the residence and removing the package. When an officer confronted the suspect, he fled the scene in a black Chevy Blazer and threw the package out of the window. The vehicle was located a short distance away. The suspect was apprehended on foot on Georgetown Road. The package was recovered.

Based on this arrest, a search and seizure warrant was obtained for the vehicle the suspect was operating and his residence.

Officers entered the residence at 7:16 PM on February 3, 2010. The officers found multiple items and packaging labels indicating that the suspect has been conducting thefts of packages over an extended period of time. A woman identifying herself as the suspect’s wife was also in the home. Officers determined that the woman was aware of the thefts.

Adrian Lamont Williams, DOB, 06-25-78, of 204 Victor Parkway and Asetti Maonay Benjamin, DOB 07-18-81 were arrested and charged with theft and theft scheme.
