Maryland Legislators Discuss Sex In Divorce
Montgomery County Delegate Luiz Simmons has introduced legislation (HB 336) to allow divorcing couples to waive the current physical separation requirement as long as they don’t have sex.
The reason behind this is that many couples are finding it difficult to financially divorce and support two households. This legislation would allow a couple to testify that they have not had sex in the past year to be granted a divorce.
Is this a good thing? Is big brother moving into your bedroom? Does this open the door to divorce fraud?
Realistically, with the divorce rates hovering at 50%, it makes more sense to look towards legislation that discourages divorce. Right now, it seems that marriages are temporary and the laws support that notion.
What do you think? Good idea for this new law? Or a dog?
