EDF/BGE Meets Lawmakers To Talk Nuclear Power.  Constellation Energy’s new partner, EDF of France, briefed lawmakers on Wednesday on its plan to build a nuclear power plant in Maryland.The briefing was billed as a meet-and-greet for lawmakers to meet those who hold the future of Maryland’s nuclear energy industry in their hands. Members of the group are from France and the UK.

Seminar To Help First-Time Homebuyers.  A free homebuyer seminar is available for those thinking about purchasing a home for the first time.The seminar is scheduled for Feb. 6 at the Sheraton in Towson. Experts said if you’re looking to stop renting and buy a home, now is the time.

Repair Work Begins On Ocean City Dunes.  Ocean City has begun repairs to eroded parts of the system of dunes along the town’s beaches.Officials plan to patch the town’s eroded dune system with about 50,000 cubic yards of sand. Work on the project began Tuesday.The beach lost hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of sand from a November storm.

O’Malley Works To Improve Sex Offender Monitoring.  Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley and other state officials are pushing a raft of legislation designed to tighten the state’s monitoring of convicted sex offenders in the wake of the slaying of an Eastern Shore girl.The kidnapping and slaying of 11-year-old Sarah Foxwell by a registered sex offender happened in Delegate Norman Conway’s district. He’s a co-sponsor of one of the governor’s bills.
