Senate President’s Son Scores Seat
And who said the “good ol’ boy network” was a thing of the past? The Washington Post is reporting that Democratic Governor Martin O’Malley has just appointed Democratic Senate President Thomas V. “Mike” Miller Jr.’s son to the Anne Arundel County District Court Bench.
This was Miller’s second grab at the brass ring after being rejected in 2008. The last time around, his name was eliminated from consideration by the nominating commission and brought back into consideration when O’Malley insisted he wanted more names. Three members of the commission immediately resigned in protest of the obvious political posturing. Presumably fearing a political backlash after the public outcry, O’Malley ultimately chose to not appoint Miller’s son.
However, this year, with very little publicity surrounding the vacancy, Thomas V. Miller III was appointed to serve on the District Court bench.
Miller is was appointed to serve full time as a Commissioner of the Maryland Parole Commission thirteen years ago. Prior to that he was an attorney in private practice.
