Pedestrian Struck Near Annapolis

UPDATE(1/2/10 08:13 AM): Police have released the name of the victim. Alfred Byrd of 1212 Louis Avenue, Annapolis, MD.

An unidentified pedestrian was struck and killed outside the popular Mexican Cafe outside of Annapolis early this morning.

According to police, at approximately 2am, a vehicle was traveling east on Bay Ridge Road  just past Edgewood Road when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing or walking within the right travel lane. The pedestrian was killed and the vehicle failed to stop at the scene and continued east on Bay Ridge Road.

The vehicle (based on debris recovered from the scene) is believed to be a 2000 to 2006 Chevrolet Suburban or Tahoe truck or a 1999 to 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The vehicle will have significant damage to its front grill area. It will be missing the passenger side front headlight, the passenger side of the bug deflector mounted along edge of the hood, and several portions of the right side of the grill.

The police are seeking information to identify the victim, the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle. Anyone with information regarding the collision is urged to contact the Anne Arundel County Police Traffic Safety Section at 410-222-8573 or the police non-emergency number at 410-222-8610.
