County Police Issue Statement On Lt. Cifala

The County police department issued a brief press release on the arrest of one of their oen on federal child pornography charges.

On January 21, 2010, James Cifala, a county police lieutenant, was charged by federal authorities in response to a complaint filed with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in September 2009. Lieutenant James Cifala is a 27-year member of the Anne Arundel County Police Department. Chief of Police Colonel James Teare, Sr. said, “The public should know that the police department holds its officers to the highest ethical standards of conduct and personal integrity. Established department regulations are designed to serve as a professional standard governing employees’ actions.” In accordance with the Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights (LEOBR) and department policy, if a law enforcement officer is charged with a felony, the Chief may impose an emergency suspension of police powers without pay. Colonel Teare will follow department policy and the LEOBR. The department will continue to assist the FBI with the investigation in any way possible.
