Leopold Declares State Of Emergency For Anne Arundel County
Annapolis, MD (December 19, 2009)– Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold today declared a state of emergency for the entire County as a result of ongoing blizzard conditions. Heavy snow and high winds have resulted in treacherous road conditions.
“Deteriorating weather conditions have warranted a state of emergency declaration. I cannot reiterate enough the importance for citizens to stay home and avoid driving unless absolutely necessary. Anyone who must venture out on the roads should exercise caution while driving as heavy snow and high winds are creating hazardous driving conditions.” County Executive Leopold said. “Anne Arundel County government is prepared to respond to this winter storm and is fortunate to have a state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Center.”
The Emergency Operations Center and Department of Public Works will continue to monitor the storm and will be staffed with 12-hour shifts in order to coordinate response activities among all County agencies as needed.
Residents may call their local Road District for assistance with County-maintained roads. Please note, however, that the customary priority plowing plans will be in effect and our drivers will be executing those plans. Citizens can find out more about Snow Removal by visiting the County’s website at www.aacounty.org/DPW/SnowInformation/Index.cfm.
