Snow Emergency Update #11

Mayor Encourages Using Garages To Allow Clearing

Annapolis, MD (12-21-09) – To enhance public safety and bolster snow removal efforts, Mayor Joshua J. Cohen encourages residents to avoid on-street parking, especially on narrow routes that make snow-plow access difficult.

To accommodate this request, the mayor has made available free parking for city residents at Annapolis’ three parking garages through Wednesday, Dec. 23.

In order to free up more space in the Historic District, the mayor has instructed city employees avoid parking in the Hillman Garage and to park instead at the Knighton and Gotts Court garages on Tuesday, Dec. 22 and Wednesday, Dec. 23. The city has arranged for a continuous loop shuttle at the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to ferry city workers between their offices and the garages.

Also, Eastport residents can park at the Eastport Shopping Center on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“We need everyone’s cooperation to clear a snowfall of this magnitude,” Mayor Cohen said. “I appreciate city residents parking their vehicles off-street where possible, and I am grateful to our city
employees for doing their part in freeing up spaces at the Hillman Garage.”

More than 20 inches of snow fell over the weekend, and icy roads have become a growing concern as crew move to clear secondary roads. The weather forecast calls for the possibility of rain and freezing rain on Thursday, Dec. 24, and temperatures are expected to fall below freezing most nights this week.
