A successful academic program for “average” students has reached a milestone in Anne Arundel County. The program is called AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. On Thursday, the school district celebrated what it called six years of progress. The program targets students who may not currently be enrolled in honor or college prep courses.
Teen Admits To Manslaughter In Christopher Jones’ Death. A second Anne Arundel County teen has pleaded guilty to his involvement in the death of a 14-year-old who was killed while he was riding his bike home in May. Javel George, 16, admitted to manslaughter in the death of Christopher Jones in juvenile court on Thursday.The judge in the case called it every parent’s worst nightmare.According to a statement of facts entered in the hearing, witnesses said George and Tray Robinson confronted Jones on his bike and hit him. He died as a result of the beating, an autopsy report revealed.
Dixon Regrets Putting City Through Trial. In a brief statement on Thursday regarding her recent guilty verdict on embezzlement charges, Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon said she’s reviewing her options and will continue to work hard at city business.
MD Plan Aims To Restore Chesapeake Bay Oyster. Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley has announced a three-step plan to bring back the Chesapeake Bay’s native oyster. The plan announced Thursday will increase Maryland’s network of oyster sanctuaries from 9 percent to 24 percent of remaining quality habitat and increase the state’s ability to enforce protections for sanctuaries.
