“Revolution Kids” Fighting for Grant Fundsbrighter planet

The Annapolis Police Department along with the Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department and the Annapolis Department of Transportation, announces a new youth bicycling initiative called Revolution Kids.

To help fund this project, APD has the opportunity to win a $5,000 grant administered by the Brighter Planet Fund but they need our help in an online vote!

So what does a win mean for Annapolis?

  • New bicycle safety programs in Annapolis schools and in the community
  • An opportunity for youth to learn bicycle repair, maintenance and skills while rehabbing rundown bikes
  • Greater awareness of how cars and bicycles can safely “share the road”

The time has come to elevate cycling and bike safety in Annapolis! Please go to the Brighter Planet Fund and vote for Revolution Kids. (free registration required but they don’t spam you)

Currently, the program is in third place by less than 200 votes. Please vote and pass this URL along to others. This is a great no cost way to support your community! You can vote three times!

The project that receives the most votes by December 15th wins the $5,000!

I would like to thank everyone who has voted to get our program some funding. As of 1230 AM on Dec 3 we are in first place. That said we still have four days of voting left, so please vote if you haven’t yet and continue to spread the word. I have been trying to get an earn-a-bike program up and running for quite a few years with not much help. Now with the help of Jen Bistrack(parks and recs), Ian Bank (transportation) and all of you we can bring this program to our kids. We will be providing kids with job skills, teamwork skills, bike safety skills, and a bicycle that they can take proud of because they worked hard for it. Thank you all so much for all of your support and help. If anyone is interested in going through an adult mentor mechanic class so you can co teach and provide these kids with the guidance that they need please email me at [email protected].

And thanks to you for spearheading it! We have encouraged our Facebook fans, Twitter followers and everyone we know to vote.

So please encourage any and everyone to vote!

  3. Teaching kids to ride safely and understand how to handle traffic is a key skill for them. Any funding that goes into this area will bring benefit.
