Pit Bulls Loose In Broadneck

On December 21, 2009,  several Pit Bulls attacking livestock at a farm house in the 1600 block of Bay Head Road on the Broadneck peninsula.

When Anne Arundel County police arrived, they saw up to five Pit Bulls attacking the livestock. They also located goats and sheep that were mortally wounded. Animal Control officers responded, but determined that it was unsafe to enter the area. Fearing for their safety, officers shot three Pit Bulls.

The deceased dogs were transported to Animal Control in Millersville and none of them had collars, microchips or other forms of identification. In total, five livestock were killed during the incident and four goats were injured. The owner will seek the proper vet care for those animals.

During the subsequent investigation, a resident of the area suggested that the owner of the dogs might be Richard Watts of the 1300 Block of Yorktown Road.  Mr. Watts was identified as the owner of the three deceased Pit Bulls. Mr. Watts was then issued six civil citations, three for Animals Running at Large and three for Public Safety Threat (kills or inflicts severe injury to a domestic animal). Officers are continuing to check the area for the possible two other Pit Bulls.

“This was a very tragic incident as several animals died as a result of this attack,” said County Executive John R. Leopold. “I urge all pet owners to keep their pets on leashes and properly secure them from running loose and becoming a threat to public safety.”
