Texting While Driving Ban Take Effect Today. Maryland drivers, beware: yesterday was the last day you could send a text message while driving without breaking the law. The new law taking effect today will make sending a text message while driving punishable by a fine of up to $500.

Two Teens Charged In Cab Driver’s Assault. Howard County police charged two Laurel teens as adults in the beating and robbery of a cab driver earlier this month. Justin Bridges, 16, and his brother, Jeremiah Bridges, 17, were charged Tuesday with attempted murder, robbery and assault.Police were called to the 9100 block of Bourbon Street shortly after midnight on Sept. 13 for a robbery report and found the victim, Getachew Lima, of Washington, D.C., with multiple injuries.

Fumes At AA School Send 16 To Hospital. Sixteen students were taken to area hospitals Wednesday after work on a school’s roof caused an odor to get into the ventilation system. The incident occurred just after 8 a.m. at Corkran Middle School in Anne Arundel County.Authorities said contractors had been working on the roof and were using aluminum roofing and adhesive materials.

Deterioration Found On 2 Susquehanna Bridges. Maryland Transportation Authority inspectors have found “advanced deterioration” on two bridges across the Susquehanna River, but authorities still said they’re safe. Dennis Simpson, the authority’s capital planning director, said the Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 40 bridges are safe and the deterioration on the pier foundations poses no immediate danger, but $53 million in repairs have been ordered on the two spans.
