Professor Cites Race In Obama Speech Furor. President Barack Obama is poised to deliver an address to America’s students, the first time in 18 years that such a speech has been given. Obama will speak directly to school children while visiting an Arlington, Va., school.The speech has largely drawn complaints from conservative groups and people opposed to Obama’s presidency. The objectors said they worry the president will promote a liberal agenda instead of merely giving students a pep talk.However, a local political expert said there is another reason — one that many would deny and feel uncomfortable to talk about.

Lt. Governor Brown Gets New Staffers. Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown’s office has announced changes.Adam Ortiz, the mayor of Edmonston, a town in Prince George’s County, and a former special assistant in the state labor department, has joined Brown’s office as deputy chief of staff. He replaces Jerry Boden, who took a job with the state veterans affairs department.

Police: Teen Tried To Choke Woman Hiking In Park. Police said a teenager tried to choke a 40-year-old woman who was enjoying a Labor Day weekend hike in an Anne Arundel County park.County police said the teen, believed to be between 13 and 16 years old, lured the woman close to him by falling off his bicycle on purpose several times.It happened Sunday afternoon at John H. Downs Memorial Park in Pasadena. Police said the woman felt uneasy as she approached the teen.
