Baltimore Takes Heed To Terror Warnings. A nationwide terror alert is prompting heightened security in Baltimore.WBAL-TV 11 News reporter Kerry Cavanaugh described the alert as sweeping and vague, reporting that a counter-terrorism expert said it’s especially timely for Baltimoreans. New federal bulletins suggest that sports arenas are attractive targets for terrorists. The bulletins remind local police that terrorists like al-Qaida are alive and well in the United States — and still looking to strike.
Decision Near On Slots License For MD Track. A decision is near on awarding the first license for a slots parlor in Maryland at an Eastern Shore horse racing track, the chairman of the slot machine commission said Tuesday. Don Fry said a decision could come as soon Wednesday, when the commission meets in Annapolis. If not then, the panel should be able to decide by its next meeting Oct. 7.
Annapolis High Gets Off State Watch List. Annapolis High School administrators said the school has met what is called Adequate Yearly Progress, meaning it has improved enough to get off a state school watch list.At one time, the school was on the brink of disaster with bouts of violence, low test scores and a poor graduation rate.”We just took it as a hit and ran with it, but for the underclassmen, it was hard because coming into this school, they didn’t know people were telling us we were no good,” said student Brian Stewart.
Man Drowns Trying To Save Teen Son. Police in Ocean City said a Montgomery County man drowned trying to rescue his teenage son.Authorities identified the man as 52-year-old Richard Robert Wagner of Boyds.Police said Wagner drowned while trying to rescue his teenage son from a rip current off the beach at 35th Street on Monday evening.
