Reflections On 8 Years Ago

pentagon memorial
The Pentagon Memorial is designed so that the nation may remember and reflect on the events that occurred on September 11, 2001. The Memorial will be free and open to the public seven days a week. Groups and individuals are welcome in the Memorial each day but guided tours are not offered; the Memorial is meant to be experienced on a more personal level. Open 24 hours per day 365 days per year.

Eight years ago today at 937am, American Airlines Flight 77 slammed into the Pentagon killing 184 people. Many of those killed or injured were our friends and neighbors.

Today, it seems to be a distant memory for many; yet so vivid for others. Everyone has a special memory of “that day”.

For me it was a sense of “less”–helpless, speechless, defenseless, and to a degree hopeless as communication with loved ones was difficult at best.  I imagine everyone held their loved ones a little tighter that night eight years ago. I know I did.

What about you, what are your memories and feelings about September 11, 2001? Please leave a comment.
