MenIIBoysAcclaimed Film To Be Shown At Annapolis Senior High

Anne Arundel County Public Schools, the city of Annapolis, and several county and city organizations and youth service agencies are teaming up to sponsor countywide screenings and open discussions of the documentary, Men II Boys, a film that focuses on the challenges that face young boys and young men, especially students of color.

The film, which has sparked important dialogue in communities across the country, will be shown at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, in the auditorium at Annapolis High School, located at 2700 Riva Road, Annapolis.

After the screenings, award-winning documentarian Janks Morton, the producer of the film, will lead a brief community discussion on solutions to the challenges presented in the film.

“This is an exciting opportunity for every member of our school system community, regardless of ethnicity, race, nationality, religion, or gender to have a meaningful discussion about how to support each other by addressing the needs and challenges of our young people,” said Carlesa Finney, director of equity assurance and human relations for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

The Men II Boys Film and Lecture Tour is designed to:

  • encourage positive male involvement in boys’ lives through mentoring and reconnecting.
  • educate single mothers and those living and working with boys about the importance of positive male examples.
  • provide young men with a foundation from which to build a strong life.
  • bring awareness of issues relevant to young men.

Admission to the event is $1 along with a canned good to support the school system’s Harvest for the Hungry efforts. Tickets are available at county middle and high schools or by calling 410-222-5354.
