Moyer Claims Victory In Market House

Moyer Celebrates Re-Opening Of Market House

Annapolis Mayor, Ellen Moyer joined other local dignitaries in celebrating the return of businesses to the Market House this morning.

This is a day of celebration. Just think, it was back in 1784 that the Market House found this place at the head of   City Dock, and has been a part of this community for 225 years. Today we officially welcome these businesses and thank them for their support.

–Mayor Ellen Moyer

Well, let’s call it 220 and 1/2 years. The Mayor seems to forget that she evicted the existing tenants in early 2004, embarked on a misguided retrofit which ended up with tenants moving out in the middle of the night. The debacle was capped off with the Mayor approving a settlement with her selected management company to “buy back” the City’s own building for $2.5 million.

While it is surprising that Moyer even showed up, it is obvious she is desperately trying to leave some sort of positive legacy in the few remaining months she has left in office.

A positive legacy may be something that alludes this mayor with the resurgence of the “Go Ellen Go!” bumper stickers and nationally syndicated cartoonists like Jim Hunt taking aim.
