Another Pedestrian Fatality

Woman Killed By Hit And Run Driver In Glen Burnie

While some of these are truly accidents and beyond a driver’s control, there seems to be an increase in vehicle versus pedestrian accidents lately.

With school back in session, there will be more kids and more traffic. Please take extra caution to make sure there are no more victims.

On August 22, 2009, at approximately 6:52 p.m., officers from the Northern District responded to the area of Route 648 North (Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard) and Oak Lane NW in Glen Burnie for a report of a hit and run traffic crash.

Upon arrival, officers located the female victim lying in the grass near the front porch of 7437 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard. Witnesses stated that the victim was on the sidewalk adjacent to the northbound lane of traffic when a dark-colored minivan traveling north on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard lost control for unknown reasons and traveled over the curb onto the sidewalk. The minivan then struck the victim. It was later discovered that the victim was preparing to cross the street to attend church prior to the crash. Paramedics from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the victim to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead as a result of injuries received in the crash.

Further investigation indicated that the minivan did not stop at the scene and continued traveling northbound. Numerous officers canvassed the area for the suspect vehicle and eventually located a vehicle matching the description in the parking lot of the Royal Farms Store located at 7201 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard. It was soon determined that this was the vehicle and driver involved in the accident. The driver was subsequently detained for investigation. Speed does not appear to have been a factor in this crash. At this time, possible charges are pending against the driver and the investigation is ongoing.
