Curtain Call For Blockbuster

Festival At Riva Store To Closeblockbuster-logo

Back in March, on of the first stories on this site was about the reduced hours of Blockbuster. While traditionally the “comfort” businesses do well in a recession, we felt that this one was a little different. The reduction of hours was just a precursor to their closing this coming Saturday. This comes after the closing of the Edgewater store in the ill-fated shopping center called Main Street at South River Colony located behind the K-Mart in Edgewater.

With this closing, there are stores in Annapolis (Hillsmere), Arnold, Crofton and Odenton. With the economy still showing no signs of a turnaround, those stores are most likely in danger of being closed as well.

While Blockbuster spokesman, Randy Hargrove indicated the existing employees would be reassigned, it does not seem as if the remaining Annapolis store can handle them–they have been dead for many months.
