You may remember an article about a “Secret Clinic” in the Allen Apartments to provide medical care for uninsured children in our area. You may have heard the news that the clinic lost their lease with the Allen Apartments and was in search of a new base of operations. But are you supporting the clinic? Do you know how?

How about a fun family walk to benefit this great resource? For a $25 (individual) or $40 (family) entry fee, you can help the clinic and participate in the first annual Walk For The Children on Saturday June 20, 2009.

Enjoy a leisurely 2 or 4 mile walk with your family and support this much needed service for uninsured children. All proceeds will be directed to the non-profit clinic.

About the Author - Sarah Kesselring

Board Member of the Shanahan Children’s Clinic. In 2005, the clinic opened its doors to care for uninsured children under the age of 19. Care is provided by a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Interpreters are always on site and a bilingual phone line is available 7 days a week for triage and appointments. At SCC children can receive physical examinations, sick care, simple lab tests, patient and parent education, and referrals to specialty care -if indicated.

We are located at 311 Center Street, Annapolis, Maryland 21401, in the community center of the Allen Apartments, just off Forest Drive. This is a central location and on a city bus route. We are open every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for appointments as well as walk-in visits. Appointments can be made 7 days a week at 443 822 6851.

The clinic has been granted 501(c)3, non-profit status. Due to the non-profit status we have been able to secure standing agreements with local laboratories and radiology services to have bloodwork, x-rays, and other exams done at a reduced rate.

A donation of $35.00 per visit to the clinic is requested; however, no care will be denied for financial reasons. In addition SCC offer Lead testing for $15.00 per screening.

Our mission is to provide assessable and affordable health care services to children from age birth to nineteen years who are under-served due to lack of insurance or medical assistance. Health care includes, but is not limited to: acute care, preventive care, patient education, parental education, and referrals to affordable specialty and complex care.

I am so proud to be involved with such an important service to our community. Children are a blessing from God and should be treated as such. The staff members at SCC are professional, warm, loving, and kind. If you are going to support a non-profit support the one in your own backyard! See you on Saturday!
