The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Alderman Samuel Shropshire’s attorney feels that the Midshipman involved in the groping incident of May 14, 2009 called the Alderman and tried to coerce a confession from him.

According to attorney, Gil Cochran, the Midshipman called his client after the alleged incident and attempted to elicit a confession. During this conversation, Shropshire denied the allegations several times. Cochran believes that this conversation may indeed have been recorded by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).

Cmdr. Joe Carpenter, a spokesman for the Naval Academy, said, “I don’t have information about what they routinely do as part of an investigation, and it would be inappropriate for me to speculate.”

And as The Capital has demonstrated, it seems like getting a straight answer out of the Naval Academy might be a long, costly and arduous process.
