Anne Arundel Teachers Need To Lose The Union

AA Co School Board LogoDo our teachers really need a union to gain the respect they are seeking? Are they really that disrespected as a profession as it is?

Last week, Mike’s Nether Land opined that indeed teachers might fare better to forego the union and garner the respect they crave by proving they are true professionals. What do you think? Check out Mike’s opinion and voice yours!

I am all for any group wanting to start a union to do so.

Happy employees rarely start unions. Too much time and effort involved.

It’s sad that the folks building cars in Detroit can make more than our teachers. If they can get that much the build cars then teachers do need a union.

  2. Jesse, I agree with you. Collective bargaining rights are as American as apple pie.

But why is it “sad” that autoworkers make more than teachers? Their working conditions can involve great danger and risk of bodily harm. They will be called on to work shifts to keep the line running 24\7. Management is always looking for ways to replace them with a robot.

I don’t think we can say the same for teachers. But teachers have for decades been unionized. And they have every right. But they cannot expected the “respect” they say we the taxpayer are not giving them AND higher pay, better working conditions, no commute, shorter hours.

They have to decide which they value more. Money or respect.
