So, the Annapolis City Council is considering giving the Aldermen (and women) a raise. So far so good. They do good work and deserve it. They are also considering an increase the Mayor’s salary by another $50,000 a year. Not such a good move in this horrible economy and especially when many of the current aldermen (and women) are either running, or contemplating a run for Mayor as we mentioned before.
Nothing like giving yourself a big old raise at the expense of the taxpayer! According to the live blog from Annapolis Politics, it seems that Mayoral Candidate Dave Cordle and Presumed Mayoral Candidate Sheila Finlayson are both in favor of this Mayoral pay raise. Cordle does not want to penalize public service and Finlayson wants us to stop thinking a 71% increase is a “dirty thing”. Candidate/Alderman Shropshire was silent on the issue.
It will be interesting to see how these candidates end up voting. While it is still very early in the election and I am undecided; I am pretty sure the vote on this issue will at least allow me to narrow the field.
