Solar Development / Generating Guidelines for Appropriate Locations

October 19, 2017 @ 7:00 am - 9:00 pm

Free

Please join the Climate Stewards of Greater Annapolis for a discussion with Al Bartlett, M.D., and Lynn Davidson from the Sierra Club Maryland Chapter.

It seems almost everybody accepts that there will need to be a major expansion of solar energy as Maryland moves toward a clean renewable energy future. However, when you get into the details of where all that solar energy will be built, there’s a lot less certainty. Even environmental activists and those who will make decisions about future development appear to have different visions. Some folks have a preferred approach to solar development, but don’t really know whether that approach can provide all the solar energy we will need. Some have specific places where they definitely don’t want solar arrays to be built. The discussions are sometimes passionate, but often short of facts.

The Sierra Club Maryland Chapter has received a small grant to explore the questions and concerns about where to locate solar projects, identify evidence and experience that addresses these concerns, and help local jurisdictions develop environment-, agriculture-, economy- and community-friendly approaches to solar development that also respond to Maryland’s urgent need to expand clean renewable energy.

This session will present the Sierra Club’s findings so far, and provide ample time for discussion of the issues with those attending.
