Join the Friends of the Rising Sun Inn on February 11, 2018, at the historic Rising Sun Inn located at 1090 Generals Highway, Crownsville, Maryland, for a special educational program, Entertaining the Troops: The USO in World War II. Historical interpreter Vincent”Spam” Turner and son, Vince “Bubba” Turner, share the history of World War II entertainment and other morale boosters for the troops through music and an informative presentation. The music will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the presentation at 2:30 p.m., and then, more music to follow. The Inn will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for docent tours both before and following the program. Admission is $7.00 for adult and children, ages 6 – 12, are $5.00. Friends of the Rising Sun Inn members receive a $1.00 discount on admission.
The Friends of the Rising Sun Inn is a non-profit, 501(c)3 charitable organization established to provide funding for the preservation, restoration, repair, maintenance, and operation of the Rising Sun Inn and property as an historical site and museum. The Rising Sun Inn, built circa 1753, is a rare surviving example of a pre-Revolutionary, hip-roofed farmhouse and is listed with the National Registry of Historic Places.
