While the Orioles are on the road in Toronto, come out to Bowie and show your support for the Baysox and the parent club. Wear your Orioles gear and save $5 on a box seat ticket. Many of the great players on the current Orioles roster, including Matt Wieters, Manny Machado, Nick Markakis and Jim Johnson, started out as Baysox players. Who knows which future Orioles stars will be in a Baysox uniform Sunday afternoon.

Baysox Assistant General Manager Phil Wrye is excited for this event. “This is the Baysox 21st season as the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles and both organizations have shared some great players over the years. We know that our die-hard Baysox fans are also huge Orioles fans and we want to see that enthusiasm for both teams in full swing on Orioles Pride Day.”

There will also be a free Manny Machado Baysox T-shirt giveaway to the first 500 fans ages 13 and older presented by the City of Bowie. The fans voted, and you picked former Baysox shortstop and current Orioles third baseman Manny Machado as the name you wanted on the back of this year’s T-shirt giveaway.

In the fourth inning, the Baysox struck right back. They loaded up the bases with no one out on a Baker double, Martinez walk and Waring single. After back-to-back outs were recorded, Ty Kelly drew a walk to force in Baker from third. Niuman Romero then knocked in Martinez with an RBI single that made the score 5-1.

In the seventh inning, the Baysox broke the game wide open by scoring seven runs. They loaded up the bases with one out and Martinez knocked in the first run of the inning with an RBI single. Then with two outs the Baysox recorded four straight hits to bring home six more runs. Garabez Rosa started it with a two-run double, Cale Iorg hit a two-run single, then Kelly hit an RBI double and Romero capped the scoring with an RBI single of his own that made the score 12-2.

The Baysox added one more run in the ninth when Waring scored on a wild pitch to make the score 13-2.

Mike Wright got the win going five innings and allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and four walks. It was the sixth straight start in which Wright has earned a win.

For $12, new and expecting moms get a reserved seat ticket, a seat cushion and access to the craving station that will include pickles, chocolate and plenty of the other crazy combinations women crave while pregnant. The rest of the family can get $12 reserved seat tickets, but they won’t get to lounge in style like mom. When ordering tickets online at www.baysox.com, moms can use the special offer code BABY for their ticket package.

Promotions Manager Chris Rogers hopes this night will be a nice break for the pregnant women in the crowd. “I am told by reliable sources that being pregnant can be a challenging time and everyone with the Baysox feels we have the perfect respite. Instead of sending someone to the store to appease fickle cravings that inevitably disappear by the time your helper returns, we are bringing the whole range of sweet and salty foods to you. If you want pickles with your ice cream or chocolate on anything, all you have to do is take a few waddling steps down the main concourse and mix until you and your baby are content.”

Not only will our guests of honor get to enjoy the game, they will also be able to watch unsuspecting fans experience some of their daily challenges through in-game promotions. Diapers, strollers and many of the other items moms must battle on a daily basis will be included.

The Baysox will celebrate Bowie’s illustrious horse racing history during A Night at the Races Saturday, May 25 at Prince George’s Stadium, during a game against the Trenton Thunder at 6:35 p.m.

The city of Bowie has a long history of successful studs in terms of both horses – like the first father-son Triple Crown Winners Gallant Fox (1930) and Omaha (1935), and the manliest of men – Bowie Baysox baseball players like Manny Machado and Matt Wieters. The team will pay homage to these and other great Bowie-based competitors both on the track and baseball diamond.

At post time of 6:35pm, the Baysox players and coaches will be outfitted with scarlet ‘STUDS’ jerseys featuring polka-dotted sleeves, directly modeled after the racing silks of the historic Belair Stud Farm in Bowie. The jerseys worn by the impressive Baysox ‘Studs’ will be autographed and auctioned off during the game with the proceeds benefitting the Friends of Belair Estate.

Promotions manager Chris Rogers encourages fans to come out in their most ostentatious horse-racing outfit or burliest sleeveless muscle shirt. “I’m keyed up like a young colt for this game, bucking at the gate in anticipation of all the great things to be featured. There have only ever been 11 Triple Crown winners, and with two trained right here in Bowie, fans will learn about these and other champions trained in their own backyard. This is much like we expect Baysox players to get their seasoning in Bowie before tasting sweet success with the Orioles.”

One week after the completion of the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore, located just minutes from Bowie, come to Prince George’s Stadium and learn about the history of Belair Stud Farm in Bowie. This integral part of horse racing history was the home of two Triple Crown Winners and multiple Horse of the Year, Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes winners.

“After being established in the 1770’s, the sale of Belair Stud Farm in 1957 enabled the City of Bowie to develop new neighborhoods and grow into what it is today,” Rogers nickered. “We want to make sure this ultra-local piece of history receives the recognition it deserves with this fun night at the ballpark.”

The night will also feature horse-racing themed promotions, information from horse groups on the main concourse, a first pitch thrown by 92 year-old local resident Fannie Basim, and the first pre-game Bud Light 1K Beer Run of the season, post time at 5:45. Fans can register for the beer run at www.baysoxshop.com.

“The Beer Run will give up to 100 human fillies, colts, mares, stallions and perhaps even geldings the chance to race their way to glory while covering a distance of roughly 5 furlongs, or half of the 10 furlongs in the Kentucky Derby,” Rogers whinnied. “I know that having nattily attired humans watch finely-tuned animals sprint for glory around a dirt track is great, but this will be even better. Friends and family will look on as decent-to-possibly fit humans sip beer and jog, walk, run and possibly sprint for 3 laps around our own very own dirt track.”

Baysox Baseball – We’ll Knock Your ‘Sox Off. The Baysox 2013 season and 20th season of baseball at Prince George’s Stadium is underway. Parking is free at every Baysox home game and tickets are available at www.baysox.com, or by calling the Baysox box office at (301) 464-4865.
