Bats quiet as Baysox fall to Akron 4-2

BaysoxThe Bowie Baysox (13-15) managed just four hits in a 4-1 loss to the Akron RubberDucks (18-11) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

Bowie has dropped four straight and this marks the first time they have been swept in a four-game series at Prince George’s Stadium since Erie took four from August 23-25, 2007.

The Baysox have also fallen in eight straight to Akron and are 2-8 against the RubberDucks this season.

Akron starter Sean Brady (1-2) allowed just one run (none earned) on three hits while walking one and fanning four in 6.2 IP. RHPMitch Brown (2.1 IP, H, BB, 3 K) closed things out to notch his third save.

The Baysox grabbed a 1-0 lead with a run in the second as Austin Hays reached second on a throwing error charged to Akron 3B Todd Hankins, advanced to third on a single and scored on D’Arby Myers’ RBI fielder’s choice.

Akron quickly responded with Dorssys Paulino’s solo shot off of Baysox starter Keegan Akin that tied the game at one apiece.

Joe Sever led off the fourth with a double, took third on a throwing error from Akin and scored on Mark Mathias’ sac fly to give the RubberDucks a 2-1 advantage.

In the top of the sixth, a walk and a pair of singles loaded the bases with one out for Akron before Akin issued a free pass to Sicnarf Loopstok that extended the lead to 3-1.

Akin (3-3) surrendered three runs (two earned) on five hits to go along with two walks and five strikeouts in 5.2 IP.

Ka’ai Tom’s RBI single in the eighth made it a 4-1 game in favor of the Ducks. The run was charged to RHP Tanner Chleborad (2.1 IP, 2 H, R, ER).

Hays reached on an infield single in the fourth to extend his hitting streak to a season-high seven games.

RHP Ryan Meisinger (1.0 IP, K) had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Gary Kendall’s squad.

Bowie heads to Altoona to open a three-game set with the Curve on Monday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. as LHP Jayson Aquino (1-2, 4.26 with Triple-A Norfolk) gets the start for the Baysox against RHP Joe Musgrove who will make a Major League rehab start for Altoona.
