Baysox drop finale to Akron 7-1

BaysoxThe Bowie Baysox (11-10) were swept for the first time this season as they committed four errors in a 7-1 loss to the Akron RubberDucks (12-10) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park in Akron.

Akron grabbed a pair of runs in the second as a pair of errors charged to Baysox SS Erick Salcedo put two men on before Ka’ai Tom reached on an error charged to CF Cedric Mullins that gave the hosts a 2-0 lead.

Tom’s RBI single in the fourth stretched the lead to 3-0 for the RubberDucks.

Akron broke the game open with a four spot in the fifth including a two-run single from Dorssys Paulino that proved to be the big blow in the inning and made it a 7-0 game.

Baysox starter John Means (0-3) was dealt the loss after allowing seven runs (two earned) on six hits to go along with two walks and four strikeouts in 4.2 IP.

RubberDucks starter Aaron Civale (3-2) surrendered one hit while fanning seven over seven shutout frames.

Bowie got on the board with a run in the ninth as D’Arby Myers led off with a single, took second on a walk, went to third on a hit by pitch and scored on Salcedo’s RBI single.

The Baysox were held to a season-low three hits in the game.

LHP Reid Love (1.0 IP, H, K) and RHP Ryan Meisinger (2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 K) both had scoreless outings in relief for manager Gary Kendall’s squad.

The Baysox head to Erie to open a three-game set with the SeaWolves on Monday night at UPMC Park. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. as a starter yet to be determined for Bowie will oppose Erie RHP Beau Burrows (1-2, 3.95).
