Anne Arundel Department of Social Services

The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services’ Holiday Sharing program matches donors to seniors and/or families in need during Thanksgiving & Christmas. Donors shop for food, clothing, and toys for the holiday and personally deliver to the household. Volunteers are needed at the Annapolis location for data entry and to answer and make phone calls October through December. Baltimore Health & Fitness Expo and Running Festival, Oct. 19-21, 2017

We need your help to support your community and local charities as well as thousands of Baltimore Running Festival participants by registering as an Expo or Race Crew volunteer for the Baltimore 16th Anniversary Running Festival. More than 1,500 Expo and Race Crew volunteers are needed to make the Baltimore Running Festival successful. Volunteer opportunities are available at the pre-race Health and Fitness Expo and on race day. All crew member volunteers will receive an event t-shirt. Expo Crew Volunteers registering for the Health and Fitness Expo at the Baltimore Convention Center on Thurs., Oct. 19 and Fri., Oct. 20, 2017 will assist with distribution of runner bibs and shirts and assist with runner registration and flow of the Expo. Race Crew Volunteers registering for Race Day on Sat., Oct. 21, 2017 at the Inner Harbor will manage flow of the Runner’s Village, assist with bag check and medal distribution, direct finishers, and assist with food preparation in Runner’s Village. The Caring Collection

Saturday, October 28, 2017, 9 am to 2pm, Caring Collection Production of Stained Glass Angel Artwork: Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks on Make a Difference Day to help prepare for an Open House to be held Nov. 11-12, 2017. This nonprofit organization raises funds for cancer research and patient care at Anne Arundel Medical Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital by making and selling stained glass angels and other stained glass artwork. Volunteers, age 14 and up, help make angels and other small artwork in the Annapolis studio on Tuesdays & Thursdays. No experience is needed. We are in the process of creating our Eternal Angel which will be Bobbie’s final stained glass angel. Also there are many other job duties available that can be helpful both in the workshop and at home prior to the above dates, such as: Running errands including making copies or purchasing needed supplies; Delivery and inventory of stained glass to gift shops; Updating displays at the medical centers; and. Historic Annapolis Foundation

Historic Annapolis will be hosting its annual Annapolis by Candlelight Tour, Fri. & Sat., Nov. 3-4, 2017. This year they are featuring the Murray Hill neighborhood. 350 volunteers are needed to greet people at the houses along the tour!  There are volunteer shifts each day: 4:30 pm – 7:15 pm and 6:45 pm – 9:15 pm. The greater need is for Saturday. All volunteers will be provided information about the houses, so you don’t need to worry about learning information before the tour – and you get to take the tour! To volunteer, contact Janet Hall at [email protected] or 410.990.4514.

 

South River Federation

Thurs., Oct. 12, 2017, from 5-6:30 PM (Londontown); Sat., Oct. 14, 2017 from 9-11 AM (Hillsmere); and. Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 5-6:30 PM (Hillsmere), Volunteers for Oyster Planting: Volunteers are needed to hand out cages and bags of oyster spat to the participants of Marylanders Grow Oysters. Pick-Ups happen at Londontown Community Pier (volunteers at this location will have to wade-in to above knee water) and Hillsmere Marina (here you can stay dry!). Spa Creek Conservancy

Sat., October 14, 2014, 9:00 a.m.– 12:00 p.m., Tree and Shrub Planting: Spa Creek Conservancy volunteers will be planting more native trees and shrubs at the Chesapeake Children’s Museum ravine step pool/ regenerative storm water conveyance system that we installed last year. Stanton Community Center

The Stanton Community Center serves as a community resource that provides children and adults with recreational and cultural enrichment opportunities and health, medical, therapeutic, and counseling services. The center displays historical portraits of Annapolis’ diverse community and features many offices, a multi-purpose gymnasium, commercial kitchen, fitness area, historic classroom, media center with computers, and two conference/meeting rooms. Volunteers, age 18 and up, are needed as academic tutors for elementary, middle and high school students in the After School Homework Program on Monday through Thursday, 3:00-6:00 p.m. from September–June to help with homework, core subjects, school projects and academic skills.  The program ends with a Homework Club Banquet to recognize students for their in-school academic accomplishments and for their after school Homework Club academic accomplishments. USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore (USO-Metro)

USO-Metro is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to “strengthening America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home, and country, throughout their service to the nation”  in Washington D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. In Anne Arundel County, USO-Metro offers volunteer opportunities at USO International Gateway Lounge at BWI Thurgood Marshall International Airport, at Ft. Meade USO Center and at the Baltimore Military Entrance Processing Center (USOMEPS-also at Ft. Meade).  Service friendly adult volunteers are wanted in a variety of roles at each location.  Volunteers provide a home away from home as they check military IDs, greet guests, replenish snacks and coffee, and provide guests with general information and assistance.
