Seeds 4 Success and STAIR form Core Partnership

Start the Adventure in Reading (STAIR) and Seeds 4 Success (S4S) have agreed to become core partners in the promotion of school success for low-income children in the Annapolis area. The new partnership enhances each organization’s ability to serve children from low-income communities who are reading below appropriate level, and expand their outreach to serve more students.

STAIR and S4S share a common mission, to provide children from low-income communities with the skills to succeed in both school and life. The purpose of the partnership is to create a seamless service array without duplication of services and with shared resources. The organizations will remain as two separate entities, but however will share resources wherever possible, to achieve their missions.

STAIR provides a robust program designed to increase the reading level of 2nd grade students reading below grade level, to increase the student’s sense of self-esteem and self-confidence, and provide a caring environment where reading is fun. Through STAIR, 2nd grade students learn critical reading skills in an environment that promotes meaningful dialogue among volunteers, children, teachers, and parents. Currently, over 150 volunteers help support STAIR students. STAIR has served the community for over 12 years and plays a vital role in Anne Arundel County.

Seeds 4 Success prides itself on offering academic support to children from 3rd grade until 12th grade. Their multiple programs help students overcome challenges they face in school and in life. Seeds 4 Success has been tremendously successful in helping students raise their cumulative GPA, meet or exceed reading levels, and become inducted into National Honor Societies and magnet programs.

The partnership will allow Seeds 4 Success to launch its Eastport Boys Club program; a parallel program to the Eastport Girls Club, serving boys in 3rd -12th grades. The program will provide afterschool programming, one on one academic coaching, mentoring and enriching summer activities. “We are thrilled to partner with STAIR, to decrease overlap and increase our reach to serve more low-income children. We are always looking for great tutors, mentors, and partners so please contact us to help.” Says Najiba Hlemi, the Executive Director of Seeds 4 Success.

As part of this partnership, STAIR will continue to provide one-on-one tutoring throughout the academic school year to improve 2nd grade reading scores. In return, S4S will provide priority consideration to student’s graduating from the STAIR program to enter their Eastport Boy’s Club and Eastport Girl’s Club. S4S will be concluding its I Am a Reader program and transition current students in this program into the Eastport Boys Club.

Both organizations look forward to partnering and ensuring the long-term success of low-income children inside and outside the classroom.
