Abundant Life Church celebrating 60 years of service in the community

Abundant Life Church celebrates its 60th anniversary of serving the north Anne Arundel County community on October 15, 2017. The anniversary celebrations will take place in the church’s 9:00 and 10:45 a.m. services and will be followed by a noon reception in its Life Center. ALC’s Lead Pastor Nathan Drye expects that it will be a fun day with special guests and several surprises.
The church was established in a house at 7305 Furnace Branch Road in Glen Burnie in October 1957 under the leadership of local residents, Charles and Sue Nash, who worked with regional Assembly of God officials to bring Reverend Robert Halquist to serve as its first pastor. Those attending the first meeting recalled sitting on old, “fragrant” and in some places, candy-stained, theater seats. Pastor Halquist served as pastor from 1957 to 1960 of the church, which was known at the time as Glen Burnie Assembly of God.
Rev. Edgar Hare served from 1960-1963 and oversaw the construction of the church building (with better seats) on the site where the house had been located. He was followed by Rev. Gilbert Litsinger, a gifted teacher, who pastored from 1963 to 1985. Under the leadership of Rev. Dan Mucci from 1985 to 2013, the church was transformed into Abundant Life Church with an emphasis on more aggressively reaching out to meet the needs of the community and on the power of prayer. He also oversaw the construction of an additional auditorium at the same address to accommodate the growing number of people who wanted to follow the teachings of Jesus.
The passion of Pastor Drye, who became pastor in 2014, has been for people to fall more in love with Jesus. He has instituted ALC’s “I Love Glen Burnie” campaign as a way of demonstrating God’s love for everyone worldwide on the local level. Recently, ALC attenders provided free backpacks filled with school supplies to 500 local children. The church also hosted its annual Block Party in September for over 1,000 children and adults.
The anniversary celebration of Abundant Life Church will be at 7305 Furnace Branch Road from 9:00 AM to 1PM on October 15, 2017.
