Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services

Saturday, October 28, 2017, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Homeless Resource Day: Volunteers, age 18 and up, are needed to serve as Guides for Anne Arundel County’s 10th Annual Homeless Resource Day being held at Glen Burnie High School, 7550 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Glen Burnie, MD 21060. Also, volunteers, age 15 and up, are needed to help with set-up on Fri., Oct. 27, 2017 from 4-7 p.m, and break down on Oct. 28, 2017 from 3-5 p.m. This is a “one-day, one stop” opportunity for individuals and families experiencing homelessness to access benefits, medical care, substance use resources and mental health counseling as well as a variety of social services which can ultimately lead to housing and self-sufficiency. The community’s support has been, and will continue to be, an important part of the effort to address issues confronting homeless individuals and families. Habitat Chesapeake ReStore- Glen Burnie
Habitat Chesapeake’s ReStores exist to support Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake’s mission of providing decent, affordable housing to hardworking, low-income families. Profits generated from ReStore sales help to build and rehabilitate homes throughout Central Maryland. We are looking for long-term volunteers to assist with daily operations of our Glen Burnie ReStore! Duties would include: cashier and customer service, truck driver assistants, and associates to help fix minor damages on donated items (such as a broken chair leg, uneven table, etc.), to increase the value of the donation to resell. International Environmental Data Rescue Organization

IEDRO is a nonprofit whose mission is to locate, rescue and digitize every piece of historic environmental data before it is lost forever. The old data when digitized and provided to the world’s scientists, researchers and educators will save more lives throughout the world than a cure for cancer, HIV and heart disease combined. Needed are volunteer part-time office manager, writers, JAVA & PYTHON Programmers, grant writers, translators (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Italian, Russian, Farsi), newsletter deputy editor, keying volunteers, presenters/lecturers, meteorologists, hydrologists, climatologists, earth scientists, teachers/educators, PowerPoint experts, and those familiar with twitter, Facebook, blogs and other modern communication devices and systems. We also may need travelers to developing countries to set up data rescue sites. Secure the Call

Urgent! Secure the Call needs 5,000 used cell phones and tablets to help those affected by Hurricanes’ Harvey and Irma. With over 60 community partners in the path of the two hurricanes, we need extra donations to make those affected feel safer and connected.  We give away free phones to over 425 community-based organizations around the US including Senior Citizen Centers, Domestic Violence Shelters and Police and Sheriff’s Departments. Secure the Call collects used and unwanted cell phones and redistributes them as 911 emergency only phones. Prepaid shipping labels are available for printing on our web site at:  www.securethecall.org. Also, Volunteers, age 18 and up, are needed locally to form groups and go into mapped parts of Anne Arundel County to place Secure the Call phone collection barrels in any place it may be allowed. Terps Against Hunger

Terps Against Hunger organizes and facilitates food packaging events at the University of Maryland to support local children and families suffering from hunger. All of the meals packaged at UMD are distributed locally. We have carefully built an expansive network of experienced and trusted distribution partners to efficiently and effectively distribute our meals, including: The Capital Area Food Bank, Bread for the City, Manna Food Center, The Salvation Army, and many more. Join us in the fight to end hunger. We would be nothing if it were not for our amazing volunteers! Collectively, thousands of volunteers have come to Terps Against Hunger events to pack meals, making a significant difference. The mission of The Wellness House of Annapolis is to help people affected by cancer and their family members recover their health and well-being through participation in a professional program of support, education and hope in a “home-like” environment. All of our services are offered free to cancer patients and their care givers. There are many different volunteer opportunities at Wellness House of Annapolis. All services are offered to members for free by our amazing volunteers. We need assistance with greeting and orienting new members, answering phones and scheduling, preparing rooms for services, tracking member services for the day, and more.
