More caregiver workshops offered

The Department of Aging and Disabilities is pleased to announce the 2017-2018 Caregiver Educational Workshops. The workshops will be held September, 2017, and continue through June, 2018. They are presented free by the National Family Caregiver Support Program of the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities.
Topics and dates of the workshop series are:
  • “Meet the Staff – Discover the Programs” presented by Department of Aging and Disabilities Staff: September 7, 2017, 6:30-8:30 pm at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center.
  • “Meet the Staff – Discover the Programs” presented by Department of Aging and Disabilities Staff: September 14, 2017, 1:00-3:00 pm at the Department of Aging and Disabilities North.
  • “Caring for Someone with a Mental Illness” presented by Kim Burton, Director of Older Adult Programs, Maryland Coalition on Mental Health and Aging: October 5, 2017 at the Pascal Senior Activity Center.
  • “Stages of Dementia” presented by Jennifer FitzPatrick, MSW, LCWD-C: November 2, 2017 at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center.
  • “Different Types of Dementia” presented by Ann Morrison, RN, PhD: March 1, 2018 at the Pascal Senior Activity Center.
  • “Medications” presented by Professional Pharmacy Staff: April 5, 2018 at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center.
  •  “The Mechanics of Caregiving” presented by Ben Ogundip, Physical Therapist: May 3, 2018 at the Pascal Senior Activity Center.
  • “Understanding Palliative Care” presented by Hospice of the Chesapeake: June 7, 2018 at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center.
In addition, the interactive and experiential “Communicating through Behaviors” workshop, facilitated by Department of Aging and Disabilities staff, will be held at the Department of Aging and Disabilities North located at 7320 Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie on the following dates:
  • September 19, 2017 (6:30-8:30 pm)
  • October 17, 2017 (6:30-8:30 pm)
  • December 5, 2017 (6:30-8:30 pm)
  • January 23, 2018 (1:00-3:00 pm)
  • March 13, 2018 (6:30-8:30 pm)
  • April 17, 2018 (1:00-3:00 pm)
  • May 15, 2018 (6:30-8:30 pm)
The 2017-2018 workshops are sponsored by Somerford Place Annapolis, Atria Manresa, Annapolitan Assisted Living, Regent Healthcare, FutureCare Chesapeake, Spring Arbor of Severna Park, Home Instead Senior Care, ComForCare Home Care, Senior Helpers of Annapolis, Genesis Health Care and P-B Health Home Care Agency, Inc.
Pre-registration is requested for the workshops presented by guest speakers. Due to limited space, registration is required for “Communicating through Behaviors” sessions.
