Two residents escape unharmed but their dog perished and their home is severely damaged after a late night fire in Pasadena. At approximately 11:15 p.m, calls began to come into the 9-1-1 Communications Center from the Riviera Beach community of Pasadena to report smoke and flames coming out of a house in the 8400 block of Bay Road. A full one alarm assignment of 48 firefighters and apparatus. Upon arrival, Fire Department personnel found a two story single family home well involved with fire. The fire was brought under control in just under 20 minutes. The resident stated she heard crackling and other noise coming from downstairs and went down to investigate where she discovered the fire. It is unknown if the home had working smoke detectors.
Members of the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit are working to determine the cause of the fire. With safety in mind, the investigators will return to the home this morning to complete their investigation. One firefighter was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center for observation and no dollar loss has been established for the property. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) says an estimated 40,000 pets per year die in fires, mostly from smoke inhalation.
