Baysox lose to Thunder in 13 innings

Baysox FieldAbiatal Avelino scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the top of the 13th to lift the Trenton Thunder (88-45) to a 3-2 win over the Bowie Baysox (69-64) on Monday night at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

Avelino doubled to lead off the 13th, took third on a sac bunt and scored on a wild pitch charged to Baysox RHP Ryan Meisinger (1.0 IP, H, R, ER, K).

Meisinger took the loss for Bowie and drops to 4-2 on the year.

RHP Colten Brewer (2.0 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, 2 K) got the win for Trenton to improve to 3-1. LHP James Reeves (1.0 IP, H, K) tossed a scoreless 13th to notch his second save.

Bowie’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot sits at three.

The Baysox tied the game at two in the home half of the 12th as Austin Wynns drew a leadoff walk, Stevie Wilkerson pinch ran and went second to on a groundout and scored the tying run with two outs when Garabez Rosa reached on a throwing error charged to Avelino.

In the top of the 12th, Thairo Estrada drew a two-out walk, advanced to third on a double from Mike Ford and scored on Ryan McBroom’s single to give the Thunder the lead for the time being.

The two teams combined to leave 27 men on base in the game with Trenton stranding 13 and Bowie leaving 14 as the hosts went 0-16 with runners in scoring position.

In the bottom of the 10th, the Baysox had the bases loaded with one out, but RHP Cale Coshow (2.0 IP, H, 2 BB, 2 K) got a lineout and a strikeout to end the inning.

The Baysox grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first as Wynns drew a one-out walk, advanced to third on a double from Austin Hays and scored on DJ Stewart’s RBI groundout.

Trenton tied the game with a run in the sixth when Estrada led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch and scored later in the frame on Zack Zehner’s two-out RBI double. The run was charged to RHP Jesus Liranzo (3.0 IP, 3 H, R, ER, BB, 6 K).

Bowie starter Tanner Scott (n/d) surrendered one hit while walking two and fanning five over three innings of work.

Thunder starter Dillon Tate (n/d) gave up one run on four hits to go along with four walks and six strikeouts in 5.1 IP.

Cedric Mullins (2-7, 2B) and Stewart (2-5, RBI, BB, SB) both had multi-hit games for manager Gary Kendall’s squad, while RHP Jordan Kipper (4.2 IP, 6 H, BB, 3 K) had a scoreless outing in relief.

The series continues on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. with RHP Lucas Long (9-6, 2.75) on the mound for the Baysox against Trenton LHP Daniel Camarena (2-2, 3.75).
