Baysox drop heartbreaker in the 15th

Baysox FieldJiandido Tromp’s walk-off single in the bottom of the 15th lifted the Reading Fightin Phils (63-57) to a 4-3 win over the Bowie Baysox (62-58) on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading.
Zach Coppola led off the 15th with a sac bunt, went to second on a sac bunt, advanced to third on a walk and scored on Tromp’s walk-off single that landed just over the head of Bowie 1B Aderlin Rodriguez.
RHP Brandon Barker (3.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 7 K) was dealt the loss for the Baysox and falls to 7-5 on the year.
RHP Shane Watson (2.0 IP, 2 H, BB) got the win for Reading to improve to 4-5.
This marks the first time that the Baysox have gone 15 innings since a 3-2 win over Richmond in 16 innings on May 19, 2011.
Reading grabbed an early 3-0 lead with a three-run first as Damek Tomscha delivered a two-run shot in the inning and Kyle Martin plated a run via an RBI single.
In the top of the second, Rodriguez led off with a single, went to third on a double and scored on Audry Perez’sRBI groundout to put the Baysox on the board.
Austin Hays’ two-run shot in the top of the sixth off of LHP Tom Windle (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER) tied things at three apiece for Bowie in the sixth. The home run was Hays’ 13th of the year with the Baysox.
Baysox starter David Hess (n/d) gave up the three runs on five hits while walking one and fanning four in six innings of work.
Reading had runners at second and third with one out in the sixth, but Hess fanned Jiandido Tromp and got Drew Stankiewicz to fly to left and end the inning.
Fightin Phils starter Elniery Garcia (n/d) surrendered one run on two hits to go along with two walks and a strikeout in 5.0 IP.
With things tied at three, the Baysox had runners at the corners with two outs in the eighth, but DJ Stewart flew to left to end the frame.
RHP Jason Garcia (3.0 IP, BB, 2 K) and LHP Paul Fry (2.0 IP, H, BB, 4 K) both had scoreless outings in relief for manager Gary Kendall’s squad. Hays (2-6, HR, 2 RBI, R) and Austin Wynns (2-6, R) had multi-hit games for the visitors.
The series continues on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Jesus Liranzo (1-4, 5.37) gets the start for Bowie against Reading RHP Franklyn Kilome (0-1, 5.40).
