The Commons — Annapolis’ First Co-Work Space Opens Its Doors

The Commons – a cooperative work and event space – opened on July 1, 2017 in downtown Annapolis (209 West Street, Suite 201, Annapolis MD 21401), offering the city’s creators and entrepreneurs flexible workspace, with a focus on building a co-working community in the heart of the Annapolis Arts District. The 3600 square foot space offers memberships that include both drop-in and long-term rates for workspaces as well as private offices. The location’s conference rooms and common area are also available for rent, catering to a wide variety of events capable of accommodating up to 60 guests.

The Commons’ management team, comprised of local residents and business owners Ben Isenberg of the Symmetry Agency, Tony Richards of Pilaster Digital, and Executive Director Jeremy Olsen, developed the space to offer a hub for Annapolis’ next generation of creators. Commons members gain access to their own private workspace, but also share amenities, including a coffee bar, kitchen, printer, conference room, and shared meeting space. “We all love Annapolis and especially the neighborhood where The Commons is located,” says Ben Isenberg. “It’s been a lot of fun bringing together all the talented, creative, hardworking people that call the area home.”

“The vision for this space was to create a place where creative professionals can gather, work, and collaborate in Annapolis,” says Jeremy Olsen, the Commons Executive Director. “Moving home to Annapolis from DC, I was disappointed that we lacked the kind of workspace I had grown used to: beautifully-designed, flexible, private spaces with a built-in community. So we decided to make one.” The Commons provides places for people to work, but was also designed as an event space for the community. “We have already hosted art exhibits and lectures, craft beer happy hours, and training sessions, and hope to continue to gather the community together throughout the year,” Tony Richards Commented.

Flexible memberships include hot desks, designated desks, and private offices. The event space is available for rent by request for functions ranging from yoga classes to networking events and everything in between.
