NSHOF thanks first responders, City for response to overturned vessel

The National Sailing Hall of Fame would like to thank the Annapolis Harbormaster, the Annapolis Police, the DNR Police, the Annapolis Fire Department and Severn Sailing Association for responding to the capsizing of the sandbagger Bear on Wednesday night in Spa Creek.

The seven experienced sailors on board were all wearing life jackets and were unharmed. No one swam to shore. Two sailors were assisted to shore by the RHIB that accompanies the sandbagger. Another National Sailing Hall of Fame RHIB was on site to assist. The boat was undamaged. There is a plan for a capsizing, which was implemented Wednesday night, and four of the people responsible for Bear, including the skipper and first mate, have U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s Licenses. We would also like to thank all of the concerned citizens on shore who had gathered for the fireworks display that evening.
