Anne Arundel – Annapolis Community Emergency Response Team (AAA CERT)

AAA CERT has announced its summer 2017 dates for Basic 20 hour CERT training. Volunteer to become a trained member of your community in emergency response. The training will be held on Friday, July 28 from 6pm-9pm, Saturday, July 29 from 8am-5pm, and Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 8am-3pm at the Fire Training Academy in Millersville. A disaster simulation will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 8am-1pm at the same location. This weekend course provides you the basic skills necessary to respond to your community’s immediate needs in the aftermath of a disaster, when emergency services are not immediately available.  Learn about disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operation, light search and rescue, CERT organization, disaster psychology, and terrorism and CERT. The cost for the training is $70 which covers the cost for the CERT backpack, bump hat, vest, and small items and supplies which you get to keep at the end of the exercise.  Everyone completing the course receives a nationally recognized certification and the opportunity to join Anne Arundel — Annapolis CERT as a member. For more information and to sign up go to the web site at: http://www.aaacert.org/. Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation & Parks

Volunteers are needed to help plant & maintain Mother’s Garden, a Victorian style garden In Downs Park, 8311 Johns Down Loop, Pasadena, MD 21122. The Garden serves as a focal point for the park and for weddings and photo shoots. There are several flowerbeds that are available to volunteers with a green thumb and a commitment for a few hours a month to tend to their garden. For more information, contact Park Ranger David DeVault at 410-222-6230 or[email protected]. Asbury Church Assistance Network (ACAN)

ACAN is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for persons in emergency/crisis situations through referrals from other agencies, providing a wide variety of food items, monetary assistance with utilities and/or eviction payments. Monetary and nonperishable canned goods donations are gladly accepted. Banneker-Douglass Museum

The Banneker-Douglass Museum is in need for volunteers to expand its enlightening and interactive education programs, give guided tours to the general public, students, educators, and others, and assist with front desk maintenance. Habitat Chesapeake ReStore- Glen Burnie
Habitat Chesapeake’s ReStores exist to support Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake’s mission of providing decent, affordable housing to hardworking, low-income families. Profits generated from ReStore sales help to build and rehabilitate homes throughout Central Maryland. We are looking for long-term volunteers to assist with daily operations of our Glen Burnie ReStore! Duties would include cashier and customer service, truck driver assistants, and associates to help fix minor damages on donated items (such as a broken chair leg, uneven table, etc.), to increase the value of the donation to resell. Maryland Children’s Alliance
The Mission of Maryland Children’s Alliance (MCA) is to ensure that every child in Maryland has access to the full services of a children’s advocacy center, MCA supports the training and coordination of the multidisciplinary teams across the state that intervene in cases of child physical and sexual abuse. Maryland Federation of Art

Through exhibitions and organizational activities, the Maryland Federation of Art provides opportunities to encourage and support artists in their work and to promote awareness of the visual arts in the community at large. Volunteering at the MFA is a great way to network with peers and creative types, learn new skills and use old ones, and meet new friends. Training is hands-on. Super Hero Camp

Volunteer support is needed August 14, 15, 16, 2017 (9:00am-3:00pm) either for an hour, half-day, full-day, or all three days. to help our local Annapolis community children build a strong, healthy, self-esteem [while discovering their inner-awesome superpowers. The mission of character education is strong in Anne Arundel County and the Annapolis community. Our own Annapolis Police Department is partnering with the professional leaders of the LAA FLAGSHIP CLASS OF 2017 on their Community Project: Character Counts. They are initiating a sustainable, annual, summer Superhero Camp, with the goal of nurturing character, courage, and confidence in these children. Volunteers are needed We have a group of 25 children that could use your mentoring to assist in reading, doing activities related to supporting a healthy self-esteem, and being there for them as a caring adult. Wellness House of Annapolis

The mission of The Wellness House of Annapolis is to help people affected by cancer and their family members recover their health and well-being through participation in a professional program of support, education and hope in a “home-like” environment. All of our services are offered free to cancer patients and their care givers. There are many different volunteer opportunities at Wellness House of Annapolis. All services are offered to members for free by our amazing volunteers. We need assistance with our gardens, clerical work, outreach, and hostessing. We also need professional practitioners in massage and Healing Touch as well as yoga and art.
