Baysox rally falls short in 6-3 loss to Erie

TBaysox Fieldhe Bowie Baysox (54-49) rallied from an early deficit, but fell short in a 6-3 loss to the Erie SeaWolves (53-48) in the series finale on Wednesday afternoon at UPMC Park in Erie.

Bowie is now in a three-way tie for first in the Western Division with Altoona and Erie.

Trailing 6-0, the Baysox cut the lead in half with a three-run sixth as a double, walk and error loaded the bases before DJ Stewart drew a walk to bring in a run and Chris O’Brien knocked home a pair with a two-run double.

The multi-RBI game for O’Brien was his first since August 7, 2016 vs. Richmond.

Bowie brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the eighth, but RHP Victor Alcantara (1.0 IP, H, BB, K) got Ryan Mountcastle to ground into a force out and end the inning.

Erie starter Artie Lewicki (9-3) gave up the three runs (two earned) on five hits to go along with two walks and five strikeouts in 5.1 IP. RHP Paul Voelker (1.0 IP, H, K) tossed a scoreless ninth to notch his fourth save.

The SeaWolves grabbed an early 1-0 lead as a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases before Gabriel Quintana drew a walk issued by Baysox starter Lucas Long.

Dawel Lugo’s two-run single in the second made it a 3-0 game in favor of the hosts.

Wade Hinkle’s three-run shot off of Long in the home half of the third stretched the Erie lead to 6-0.

Long (6-4) surrendered six runs on nine hits while walking three and fanning three in 2.1 IP.

Austin Wynns (2-3, BB, R) had a multi-hit game for manager Gary Kendall’s squad, while RHP Jason Garcia (2.2 IP, 2 H, BB, 4 K), LHP Garrett Cleavinger (2.0 IP, BB, 3 K) and RHP Ryan Meisinger (1.0 IP) had scoreless outings in relief.

The Baysox return home to open a four-game set with the Akron RubberDucks on Thursday night at Prince George’s Stadium as LHP Tanner Scott (0-1, 1.94) gets the start for Bowie against Akron LHP Matt Whitehouse(6-4, 3.82).
