Two-out hits doom Baysox in series opener

The Baysox lost an early advantage as Binghamton delivered in the clutch time and time again sending Bowie to a 7-2 defeat in the series opener at NYSEG Stadium. All seven Binghamton runs scored with two down in an inning.

The Baysox got up via the run game. DJ Stewart singled, stole second and scored in the second inning on an RBI-single from Adam Brett Walker. In the third, Jay Gonzalez singled, stole second and reached third on the throwing error by the Binghamton catcher Colton Plaia. With the infield drawn in, Cedric Mullins singled to right and the Baysox led 2-0.

David Hess was solid early retiring ten of the first 11 faced with four strikeouts. But Binghamton got to him in the fourth. With two on and two down, David Thompson singled home a run to left field. DJ Stewart tried to throw behind the trail runner from left field to second base and the ball went all the way into foul ground on the first base side. The runner from second, Matt Oberste scored but Thompson was thrown out trying to get third. The game was tied at 2-apiece.

Binghamton would get two-out RBI hits to grab the lead in the fifth, score three times in the sixth and add one more in the seventh to blow the game open. It was enough for Binghamton knuckleballing starter Mickey Jannis who went eight innings in the win. The Baysox have dropped ten of their last 12 games.

The series continues with LHP Tanner Scott on the hill Wednesday, June 21st at 6:35 p.m.  Coverage begins 20-minutes before first pitch on wnav.com, baysox.com and via the WNAV, Tune-In and MILB Apps.

Bowie returns home Monday, June 26th for a four-game series with Altoona beginning at 7:05 p.m. July 4th tickets are also available. Purchase over the phone at 301-805-6000 or online at baysox.com.
