Firefly 2017 was a blast–bring it on for 2018

Firefly 2017 was another fantastic year and great success for the ever-growing festival that brings one of the most diverse lineups I have seen a festival put together. Music ranged from new age Electronic Dance Music (EDM) with big names Illenium, Benny Benassi, and Dillon Francis. Hip-Hop artists The Weeknd, Chance the Rapper, and Lil Dicky who had one of the most entertaining performances I have ever seen personally. I had no idea what to expect at his set, as I had only heard of one song from him, however it was quickly clear that this was not an ordinary hip-hop set. It was one of the funniest things I’ve seen at a festival as it was a mix of hip-hop, comedy, and even crowd interaction and storytelling. Where Firefly really shines is their acts that attract all ages from teens to grandparents. Acts such as Muse and Bob Dylan and his band really shows how’s diverse this lineup really is. Seeing entire families come to enjoy the same festival with the same music is truly a unique experience.

I have had the pleasure of attending this festival many times and have seen it grow throughout the years and have always enjoyed my time at Firefly, and this year was no different. Even with poor weather conditions like the hurricane warning last year, to the rain storms this year that caused a lot of mud inside the festival. Despite the weather not always cooperating, it is still an enjoyable time and the organizers really work hard to keep the ball rolling, acts still performing, and the grounds as safe as possible.

Firefly also really excels in just the overall atmosphere and activities outside of the core music portion of a festival. The stage production is fantastic and is always a treat to see classic artists performing on a stage with new age lasers, fireworks and other visual production effects. Throughout the festival itself there are tons of art installations that really immerse you into the whole festival as you travel about from stage to stage. I constantly was going out of my way to walk a certain path throughout the festival as there was an artist that was doing a massive 20-foot spray paint mural and was constantly wondering how much further he had gotten.

Outside the festival main grounds is the camping area and is filled with tens of thousands of campers that continue the party after the music ends inside the festival. The hubs that are in the camping area provide food and drinks as well as have a smaller stage setup where they will play music and even have a silent disco as it gets later into the night. Meeting people and people watching is always one of my favorite parts of a festival and this is no exception. We did not arrive the day before the festival started so our camp site was at the absolute very end of the camping grounds, but we had some of the coolest neighbors and became close friends with them. When we were not in the festival we were at our camp site sharing stories, playing music, and party games.

Next year’s Firefly will be here before you know it and if you have yet to attend a Firefly then I would highly consider it. Get your tickets early!
